CubicFarms is a leader in controlled environment agriculture industry aiming to minimize the use of natural resources and maximize cubic growing space. CubicFarms is developing two indoor growing technologies; one for fresh produce and one for high-energy fresh livestock feed.​
Optimizing Yield and Efficiency in Controlled Environments
To achieve optimal plant yield and operational efficiency in controlled environment agriculture (CEA), CubicFarms faced the challenge of continuously monitoring and controlling various system inputs, such as environmental factors, nutrient levels, and lighting. With each growing module outfitted with a multitude of sensors, the company needed a centralized system to efficiently manage data and control inputs, ensuring optimal plant growth while mitigating high operational costs.
Industio's Solution for CubicFarms
In collaboration with CubicFarms' leadership and farming partners, we conducted a comprehensive analysis of the company's business and technical needs. This included creating a data strategy to establish a clear connection between key business drivers and system indicators. Working with Cubicfarms' Engineering, we formulated a sensor and network strategy. The data needs were then translated into data models, system and network architecture. We developed the IoT messaging structure and data pipelines to construct a digital twin of the system. An enterprise-scale platform was built to monitor data and control equipment through industrial communication protocols such as CANBus and Modbus. Plant growth was tracked using a Computer Vision model, and various system and plant insights were made available through dashboards tailored for different stakeholders.
